Victory Is 90% Mindset

Mindset is the biggest obstacle for most of the business owners I know.

I work with some of the best Financial Advisors in the world, and I have been since 2002. Most of them are earning 7 or 8 figure incomes, but at some point most “hit the wall.” They work with me and my firm so they can have a breakthrough and achieve the “next level” of their business development.

You’d think the biggest obstacle to forward progress for successful business owners like these would be a lack of something substantive and understandable. You’d think their road-blocks would be lack of financial capital or human capital, but you’d be wrong.

Most aren’t lacking capital nor are they unable to find skilled team members. Without question, the biggest obstacle is almost always their mindset. They either lack vision or allow limiting beliefs to hinder progress.

Setting incremental goals usually means the goals are set too low. I don’t mean they’ve set goals a little bit low, I mean a large number set their goals ridiculously too low. It’s a cliche, but its true that most business owners overestimate what they can get done in one year, and underestimate what they can get done in 3 years.

I always encourage our clients to set 3 year goals that don’t simply “improve your life,” but rather have the impact of “changing your life.” Life-changing goals like that result in increased resolve and greater motivation.

Motivation is the key. You don’t achieve goals by thinking about and planning to take action. You achieve life-changing goals by taking massive action and that’s why the obstacle is almost always a mindset problem. It’s often apparent there’s not enough action to achieve the goal.

So consider this, if your 3-year goal would literally change your life for the better, how much effort and action would you be willing to invest in it this week? Not next week, but this week? Today!

Great accomplishments don’t happen by getting ready to get ready to take action. They happen by actually taking action.

Ancient wisdom says that you become what you think about most of the time. That’s true, but action is what makes the difference. Taking action even when you don’t feel like it. Taking action now, and tomorrow and most days.
